It’s well known that increased activity will help burn more calories and increase your metabolism. Raising your body temperature through exercise is certainly one of the keys for fat loss. There are plenty of forms of exercise that will aid you in reaching the promised land. We all have our favorites. On a personal level, while I enjoy biking more, I find that running is the form of exercise that really works for me when it comes to losing fat.

I hadn’t tried running seriously for many years until the last couple of months. Let me tell you, it really doesn’t take long to adapt and build more endurance for longer runs. I went from barely mustering out a mile to being able to do 4.5 mile run in a matter of months. Of course, keeping your diet in check is a must as it’s much easier to run if you weigh less – and it’s much easier on the joints.

Since I started running, the weight has really come off. Though diet is definitely a big part of it, I have lost around 35 pounds in the last 7 or 8 months. This isn’t an extreme loss by any means, but I didn’t have an extreme amount to lose either. If you’re being sensible about, you should only be losing so much per week – maybe a pound or two. Otherwise, you may be losing muscle as well and end up not looking as ripped as you could.

If you want to start running to get great abs, you’ll need a good pair of running shoes and comfortable gear to run in. You should have clothing for cold and warm weather runs. Some type of back pack or fanny pack for water and your phone can also be quite helpful.

Not everything about running is peaches and cream. Your feet will take a beating. Make sure to do proper stretching before and after runs to keep your ankles and other lower body joints loose and flexible. I am constantly walking at work and have found that compression socks can help with shin splints and sore Achilles tendons and ankles. Topical pain relieving cream and balms are help an awful lot.

You should get a check up if you’re interested in starting out with running like you should when starting any exercising program. If you’re good to go just make sure not to overdo it at first. You will be able to work up to longer runs in no time as long as you’re consistent. Keep at it to get into great shape from running
